Is there any advantage to registering for the lottery early? No there is no advantage. Lottery numbers are randomly generated after the close of lottery registration. Every person who registers has an equal chance to get a better lottery number.
What happens if I do not register for the lottery by March 21? You will not able to participate in the lottery process. If you do not register for the lottery, you will need to complete the Housing Preference form and you will be assigned to a space over the summer. It is in your best interest to register for the lottery so that you can select your housing for the Fall 2008 semester.
Can I apply for more than one lottery? Yes, and it is a good idea to apply for any lottery that you think you might want to participate in. That way you are covered if there is not space in a previous lottery for you or your group.
I am interested in a substance free space in Rector Village. Do I go through the Rector Village selection process or the Substance Free Lottery? You would go through the Rector Village Lottery Process if you are going through as a group of 5 or 8. Your group will need to fill out a Rector Village Selection process form which will be available on-line after spring break. Students who are interested in a substance free unit as a pair where you can pull in a friend into a unit as a pair (2 adjoining single rooms) can select these units during the substance free lottery. You must register as substance-free during lottery registration to select a substance-free space in Rector Village either as a group or a pair.
Can Sophomores live in UOAH (University Owned Duplexes, Houses and Apartments)?
The answer is typically no. Sophomores can live in residence halls and Rector Village. The exception is in the No Event Registration Neighborhood.
Where can Sophomores live?
UOAH:
No Event Registration Neighborhood: Sophomores will be allowed some spaces in this new housing option. This is by application only. Applications are due February 25. Varying numbers in a group.
Rector Village
Group Living Application: Sophomores are allowed to apply for a floor in Rector Village. This is a qualitative application process (no lottery number needed). Applications are due February 25. 8 person groups.
Rector Village lottery
: Sophomores are eligible to apply for Rector Village suites, either with only sophomores or with mixed-class groups (5 or 8 person groups). Suites are awarded based on the Group Lottery Number. This lottery is by application. Applications are due April 2.
Single rooms: A limited number of single rooms will be available within the three RA suites. If spaces remain at the time of the Current First-Year Lottery on May 7, the rooms may be selected in pairs.
Residence Halls
Group Living: Groups will be available by highest group lottery number on the first floor of Lucy and second floor of Bloomington Street. Groups of . These spaces are reserved for sophomores only. Adjoining Singles: Lottery participants may pull in a friend to the adjoining singles. Any available spaces can be selected at the Current First-Year lottery on May 8.
Non-adjoining Singles: Lottery participants may pull in a friend to a non-adjoining single on the same floor. Any available spaces can be selected at the Current First-Year lottery on May 8.
Substance Free: A separate lottery will be held for those desiring substance free living on April 28. Some buildings in Rector and some floors in Mason are designated as Substance Free.
I am listed as the wrong class, what do I do to correct this? The priority is based on how many semesters you have completed, not the number of credits you have accumulated. If you feel that you are listed incorrectly by the computer, e-mail housing@depauw.edu and we will research and correct if necessary. Typically this occurs to transfer students and we manually correct these based on the Registrar's records.
I have officially disaffiliated from my former Greek organization, but my lottery number is in the Greek category. What do I do to correct this? You will need to contact the Greek Affairs office at x4062, UB 130, or glc@depauw.edu, to make sure that all paperwork is completed. The Greek Affairs office will contact us and we will change your lottery number if you are no longer affiliated. Corrections cannot be made within 24 hours of each lottery.
What if I am going abroad in the fall and need housing in the spring? You can fill out a Housing Preference form and we will assign those spaces during at the end of the Fall semester. One great option is to arrange with a group that is having a person leave for the spring semester to go abroad and fill their space.
I have applied for in the Group Living or No Event Registration Neighborhood processes. Do I still need to register for the lottery? It depends. You do not need to apply if you get selected for a Theme Community or for the No Event Registration Neighborhood. However, you will need to register if you do not receive a space through these processes. You will know by March 7 whether or not your group has been awarded a Theme Community or No Event Registration Neighborhood unit and the deadline to register for the housing lottery is March 21.
I am currently off-campus but need housing in the fall. Do I have to register on-line for the lottery? Yes. If you do not register by March 21st, you will not be eligible for the lottery. You will also need to register a proxy to select a room for you. Your proxy should be someone whom you trust and who knows you well enough to make housing decisions for you. You will need to register your proxy by March 21st by emailing housing@depauw.edu. Only registered proxies will be able to select housing for someone other than themselves.
