What do you mean by University owned apartments and houses (UOAH)?
Some of the services provided, and expectations of students living in UOAH, are different than those of students living in residence halls. If you are interested in UOAH, please be sure to read over the Policies and Procedures of University Owned Apartments and Houses; details about student expectations and services provided can be found within that section. Who can live in UOAH?
Students with junior or senior status are eligible to live in UOAH. Students must have completed at least 3 semesters. Sophomores are only eligible to live in the No Event Registration Neighborhood.
What are the expectations of UOAH residents?
With independent living comes independent responsibility. Students living in UOAH are expected to function more independently than residence hall students. They are expected to furnish their own supplies, take out their own trash and maintain the outside of their unit, educate themselves on University policies and procedures, and are responsible for reading and responding to all communication from the Residence Life & Housing office. Apartments and houses are provided to juniors and seniors under the premise that their residence hall or Greek unit experiences have prepared them to assume more heightened responsibility. The ultimate expectation for UOAH residents is that they maintain the University's highest level of responsibility, conduct, communication and role modeling. What is a UOAH Liaison?
In order to establish effective, purposeful communication, each UOAH unit will be required to select a Liaison during the lottery. Your Liaison will be the person in your unit responsible for directly communicating with both professional members of the Residence Life & Housing staff and your Apartment Manager. This person will receive regular updates and will be required to attend various neighborhood meetings throughout the year. All UOAH residents are encouraged to contact Residence Life & Housing staff at any time, however, with the Liaison system, the University is ensured that there is at least one person in each unit who is intentionally designated to provide and receive communication. How does the UOAH lottery work?
This is one of the changes for the lottery this year. Based on feedback from the Housing Lottery Task Force, UOAH housing selection will take place in phases and some of the process will be paper-based. The first part of the UOAH lottery is the UOAH Large House selection for the 8- and 10-person houses. Students must complete the UOAH Large House Lottery application with all the names and signatures of the residents to live in the house along with each person's lottery number. The form will allow the students to rank their preferences for the 8- and 10-person houses. The group will determine their new Group Lottery Number by calculating the average of the lower half of all their lottery numbers, rounded to the nearest tenth. For example, if there is an 8 person group with the numbers 12, 23, 45, 58, 81, 145, 156 and 178, they would average the lower numbers (12, 23, 45, 58) to result in their Group Lottery Number of 34.5.
UOAH Large House applications are due by 4:00pm on Monday, April 7.On Wednesday, April 9, students will be notified whether or not they received a Large House. If they do not receive a space in this part of the process, they can the continue to the next UOAH process.
Students wishing to select any of the remaining UOAH spaces must complete and submit the General UOAH Lottery Application. On the form, they must indicate the members of their group and calculate their Group Lottery Number. For UOAH groups of 3 students, use the lowest two numbers as the Group Lottery Number and for groups of 5 students, calculate the Group Lottery Number using the lowest three numbers.
General UOAH Lottery Applications are due by 1:00pm on Friday, April 11. Selection for the remaining UOAH spaces will take place April 14-18 by appointment in the Residence Life & Housing office. Appointment times will be determined by Group Lottery Number and students will be notified of their appointment time by 5pm on Friday, April 11.
*As spaces are selected the UOAH Lottery webpage will be updated so that your group can keep track of what houses or apartments will be available at your appointment time.
Can I sign up for only part of an apartment or house?
No, you must have the minimum number of people required, otherwise you can not sign up for that apartment or house. Additionally, if during the year someone in your apartment or house moves out, you have two weeks to fill the space or you may be required to move into other housing. Then another group with enough people to fill the minimum capacity will be allowed to move into that apartment.
What if I sign up for the University Owned Apartments and Houses lottery but don't get in?
When registering for the lottery, all students signing up for UOAH lottery will have an opportunity to indicate what their plans are if they do not receive housing in one of the apartments or houses. After UOAH selection concludes on April 18, students who are not able to select a UOAH unit will be entered into either the residence hall lottery or the substance-free lottery, or may choose to live in their Greek unit. The actual housing lottery in which you will be entered will be determined from your request on the lottery registration form.
All students must sign-up for the lottery on-line and have a lottery number before submitting an application.
