Housing Lottery & Selection Highlights
LOTTERY NUMBER ASSIGNMENT
There are 3 categories of lottery numbers within each class. Independent and NPHC Greek students have the highest priority, followed by Overflow NPC and NIC Greek students, and then NPC and NIC Greek students. The Overflow Greek category was created to allow those students for whom there is no space in their sorority or fraternity house to have a more priority than Greek students who are choosing to live out of their chapter house. Overflow NIC and NPC Greek students will be determined by each individual organization. Each sorority or fraternity reports the names of the students in their organization who will not be able to live in their chapter house due to its capacity to the Residence Life & Housing office. Once those names have been submitted they cannot be changed. Those students will be randomly assigned lottery numbers within the category for their respective class.
GROUP LOTTERY NUMBERS
The students wishing to select spaces in group housing (Rector Village and UOAH) have an alternate lottery number, the Group Lottery Number. The Group Lottery Number is calculated by averaging the lower half of all their lottery numbers, rounded to the nearest tenth. For example, if there is an 8 person group of students with the numbers 12, 23, 45, 58, 81, 145, 156 and 178, they would average the lower numbers (12, 23, 45, 58) to result in their Group Lottery Number of 34.5. For groups of 3 students, the lowest two numbers would be used to calculate the Group Lottery Number and for groups of 5 students, the lowest three numbers would be used. Creating this alternate Group Lottery Number places less emphasis one student "pulling in" other students and creates a more accurate number to reflect the group as a whole.
PAPER-BASED PROCESSES
About half of the housing lotteryselection process is paper-based rather than event-based. From much positive feedback in previous year's administrative processes, we have kept that format consistent in all group housing (Rector Village, UOAH and Lucy/BSH groups). Each group will submit their form with all the students' names and lottery numbers as well as the Group Lottery Number by each deadline. For Rector Village and the UOAH Large House Lottery (for the 8- and 10-person houses) the groups will be notified of what space they have received or if they do not receive a space, where they fall in the waitlist.
For the General UOAH Lottery, students will submit their application and then based on their Group Lottery Number will be assigned an appointment during the week of April 14-18 to select their space. During the UOAH selection week, the UOAH Lottery webpage will be updated throughout the day to reflect what spaces in UOAH remain. This process will allow students more time to regroup if a house they desired has already been selected and eliminates the time spent waiting at a one-night selection event.
GROUP LIVING OPTIONS FOR SOPHOMORES
We provide several options for sophomores to live together with groups of friends in Lucy and Bloomington Street Hall as well as two suites in Rector Village. In Lucy, there are four room groupings for groups of 5 to 8 students. These group spaces are combinations of singles, doubles and triples with some of the doubles and triples having a private bathroom, which allows for the Lucy groups to be either single-gender or co-ed. Group spaces in Bloomington Street are a mixture of doubles and singles for groups of 6 to 8 students, and Rector Village suites house 8 students. All of these spaces are available through the Group Living pre-lottery application process. The Group Living application is due by 4:00pm on February 25, 2008 . To see a floor plan showing the available room groupings, please click here.
NO EVENT REGISTRATION NEIGHBORHOOD
The No Event Registration Neighborhood is located in the Walnut and Poplar Street houses and Little Rock apartments. Students residing in the No Event Registration Neighborhood will have the opportunity to live in a more quiet setting and can choose to be substance-free if they wish, which meets the needs of students, the Greencastle neighbors and the University. All of the policies and procedures of University Owned Apartments and Houses apply, except that students living in this neighborhood can only host gatherings with fewer than 10 guests. This is the only UOAH neighborhood in which sophomores are typically permitted to live
AIR CONDITIONING NEEDS
All students who medically require an air conditioned room must submit the Medical Verification for Air Conditioning form by April 1, 2008. Students with a documented medical need for air conditioning will be given priority to select a space in Lucy or Mason Halls. If you do not submit the necessary documentation before the April 1st deadline, we cannot guarantee you a space that is air conditioned.
