What do I do if my individual number is wrong?
If you believe that you are improperly listed as either Greek or Independent, or in the wrong class, please email housing@depauw.edu and we will verify with either Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life or the Registrar's office and correct as necessary. If you have recently disaffiliated from your Greek organization, you should contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, x4270 or UB 210, to verify that your status has been updated. Corrections cannot be made within 24 hours of each lottery.
Please know that if you are affiliated with a Greek organization but you are listed as Independent on e-Services, you must contact the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to correct your status. If it discovered by Residence Life and Housing staff that you did not take action to change your status to accurately reflect your Greek affiliation, you will not be able to select housing until after all current first-year students have selected spaces
What is a Group Lottery Number?
The Group Lottery Number was created in response to student feedback in regards to "pulling in" roommates in group housing. A GLN is used for all group housing processes (Rector Village suites, UOAH, Lucy group spaces).
The Group Lottery Number is calculated by averaging the lower half of all group members' lottery numbers, rounded to the nearest tenth. For example, if there is an 8 person group with the numbers 12, 23, 45, 58, 81, 145, 156 and 178, they would average the lower numbers (12, 23, 45, 58) to result in their GLN of 34.5. Groups of 5 students should use the lowest 3 individual lottery number to calculate their GLN and groups of 3 students should use the lowest 2 individual lottery numbers. Groups of 2 (for small UOAH apartments) should use the lowest individual lottery number as their GLN.
