Sustainability in University Housing
Did you know...?
 |
- Physical Plant has exchanged 1,500 incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs in student rooms, lamps and other areas of the residence halls
- Housekeepers have been trained in and use Green certified cleaning products
- During the summer of 2007, Mason hallway carpet was replaced using new product containing 60-70% post-consumer materials. Old carpeting was recycled saving 742 cubic yards of waste
- Approximately 100 cubic yards of cardboard was recycled during move-in 2007
- Each residence hall room is equipped with an individual recycling bag to help increase recycling. Co-mingled and paper items can then be taken to one of four bins on each residence hall floor
- Every UOAH unit is provided with a bin for collecting recyclables
|
What can you do to help?
- Turn of the lights, tv, stereo, etc., when you leave a room
- Unplug items when not in use
- Do not leave water running when brushing your teeth
- Adjust thermostats 2 degrees cooler in the winter and 2 degrees warmer in the summer
- RECYCLE, RECYCLE, RECYCLE! All residence halls have bins for paper and co-mingled items. What are co-mingled items? Examples are soda bottles, aluminum cans, anything with the recycle symbol:
