SAFE ZONE
United DePauw has been involved in a Safe Zone Campaign since 1997. Safe Zone signs are displayed by many University professors, staff, and students. If you are interested in receiving a Safe Zone sign to display in your office, studio, or room, please contact an officer, including your campus address.
The Safe Zone signs are distributed with the following text:
On behalf of United DePauw, DePauw University's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight, student, faculty and staff alliance, we would like to provide you with the Safe Zone Sign. This sign can be displayed on an office, studio, room, or classroom doors in an effort to show support to all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age or religion By hanging this sign, you are saying that the particular space is a safe place to talk about any issues that go along with being part of any minority and that students can be assured that their concerns will be respected and kept confidential. It is also a clear statement that homophobic, racist, and sexist language will not be tolerated and that all students will be treated equally in the office or classroom in which the sign is displayed.
