First Year Student Parking

As a residential campus, cars for students are considered a secondary need and certainly not required for achieving success at DePauw.  All classes, campus social and athletic facilities are within easy walking distance of all living units.  Parking is taken very seriously and having a student vehicle on campus is considered a privilege, not a guaranteed right.  Violation of the following parking regulations will result in fines, vehicle impoundment, University judicial charges, and ultimately, loss of parking privileges.

Parking space on and around campus is extremely limited.  For this reason, first year students may ONLY park in those lots described in the following section "First-Year Student Parking".

Any student registered for classes at DePauw and parking a vehicle in Greencastle must register his/her vehicle with the Public Safety Office and properly display a DePauw student parking permit.  To register a vehicle, a student must present a valid student ID and vehicle information (including license plate, vehicle description, and vehicle owner information).

University Policy

Any student having a vehicle in Greencastle is required to obtain and properly display a parking permit for his/her vehicle.  Additionally, all students are required to understand and abide by the DePauw student parking regulations.  Pursuant to Greencastle City Resolution 1998-18, and beginning with the 1998-99 academic year, the University administration has charged the Department of Public Safety with enforcing the permit requirement on University, as well as non-University property.

Vehicle Registration

Students can register their vehicles through the DePauw Public Safety Office, located on the second floor of the Memorial Student Union Building or online click here.  To register a vehicle, a student must have their student ID and vehicle information including license plate number, year and state of issue.

Parking Permits

The cost of a student parking permit is $40, which will be charged to your student account.  Temporary permits (valid for one month or less) cost $2.  All permits are nontransferable.  If, for any reason, a student brings a vehicle to campus other than the one originally registered, that vehicle must also be registered. The fee is $5.  Students found to be supplying, receiving or displaying improper permits will be subject to fines and appearance before a judicial board for disciplinary purposes.

Display of Permits

All parking permits are required to be affixed and completely visible.  The permits should be affixed on the rear glass in the lower left (driver's side) corner.

Exception:  If the permit would not be visible in that location (i.e. a dark tint on rear glass or convertible top,) the permit should be affixed on the front windshield lower left (driver's side) corner.  Permits may be picked up in the Public Safety Office located in Room 200 of the Student Union Building.

Responsibility for Parking Violations

Students are responsible for any violations of University parking regulations involving the vehicle(s) they own or have registered on campus.

First-Year Students Parking

First-year students may ONLY park in one of the following parking lots on campus.  These lots are:

Olive Street Lot (directly South of the Lilly Center)

College Street Hall Lot (directly west College Street Hall)

Hogate South Lot (directly South Hogate Hall)

Bloomington Street Hall Lot (west of Bloomington St. Hall)

Ohio Street Lot (corner of Locust and Ohio Street)

Blackstock Parking Lot (directly South of the Football Stadium)

Parking for first-year students is extremely restricted. First-year students may NOT park on any street that runs through or adjacent to campus.

The appropriate spaces in each lot are designated by lines, parking bumpers and/or signs. If not marked in such a way, the area is not a parking space.
