Upperclass Parking

General Information
As a residential campus, cars for students are considered a secondary need and certainly not required for achieving success at DePauw.  All classes, campus social and athletic facilities are within easy walking distance of all living units.  Parking is taken very seriously and having a student vehicle on campus is considered a privilege, not a guaranteed right.  Violations of the following parking regulations will result in fines, vehicle impoundment, University judicial charges and ultimately loss of parking privileges.

Parking space on and around campus is extremely limited.  For this reason, students should not expect to park on campus or the surrounding neighborhoods other than the areas described below in the section titled "Upperclass Parking."

Any student registered for classes at DePauw and parking a vehicle in Greencastle must register his/her vehicle with the Public Safety Office; and properly display a DePauw student parking permit.  To register a vehicle a student can complete an on-line form, (click here) or visit the Public Safety Office located on the second floor of the Memorial Student Union Building.  Please bring with you, a valid student ID, and vehicle information (including license plate, vehicle description and vehicle owner information.)

Parking Permits
The cost of a student parking permit is $40, which will be charged to your student account at the time of vehicle registration.  Lost permits can be replaced at a cost of $5. Temporary permits (valid for one month or less)  cost $2.  All permits are nontransferable.  If, for any reason, a student brings a vehicle to campus other than the one originally registered, that vehicle must also be registered.  The fee for a second permit is $5.

Students found to be supplying, receiving or displaying improper permits will be subject to fines and appearance before a judicial board for disciplinary purposes.

All parking permits are required to be affixed and completely visible.  The permits should be affixed on the rear glass in the lower left (driver's side) corner.  Exception:  if the permit would not be visible in that location (i.e. a dark tint on rear glass or convertible top), the permit should be affixed on the front windshield lower left (driver's side) corner.

Upperclass Parking Categories- (Knowing WHERE you can park will save you time and money)

Parking for Upperclass students is divided into two categories

"R" for students residing in Residence Halls and other University Owned Housing (Duplexes, Apartments, Theme Houses, etc.)  These students may park in the following parking lots and areas designated with "R" permit signage.

Locust St. Lot (corner of Locust and Poplar Sts.)
Rector Village Lot (behind Rector village)
Senior Hall Lot (behind Senior Hall)
Hill St. Duplex Lot (between Duplexes off Hill St.)
Jackson St. Lot (behind Jackson St. Duplexes)
Little Rock Apt. Lot (north of Little Rock Apts.)
Hanna Apt. Lot (behind Hanna Apts.)
Coan Apt. Lot (behind Coan Apts.)
Locust Apt. Lot (behind Locust Apts.)
Seminary Apt. Lot (off Spring St.)
Hanna St. Lot (south of Lucy Hall)
Bloomington St. Hall Lot (behind Bloomington St. Hall)

"U" for all other Upperclass students including students residing in Fraternities and Sororities.  These students have very limited parking availability on those city streets directly in front of and on the same side of the street as their respective living unit. These areas are designated by signage stating "Upperclass parking."  These students may also park in their private fraternity or sorority lot or any University lot posted as a "Student Parking" or "U" Upperclass.  The only other street locations where these students may park are:

Locust Street between Hogate Hall and Ohio Street
Hanna Street between Locust Street and the Rector Driveway
College Street between Pine and Olive Streets
(except where signs prohibit student parking)

Other areas where you may park:

Elm Street Lot (east of SAE on Elm Street)
Olive Street Lot (directly south of the Lilly Center)
College St. Hall Lot (directly west of College Street Hall)
Hogate South Lot (directly south of Hogate Hall)
Ohio Street Lot (corner of Locust and Ohio Streets)
Blackstock Lot (directly South of the Football Stadium)
Peeler Art Lot (South of Peeler Art Center, Indiana St.)

Evening Parking
Parking on Locust Street from Hanna to the south Hogate Lot; College Street from Olive to Hanna Streets; Olive Street from Locust to Indiana Streets, and Larabee Street are available during the evening for parking ONLY from 4:00 PM to 7:00 AM.  These streets are restricted from student parking during University business hours Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Where Students May Not Park
Students may NOT park in any Staff/Faculty/Visitor designated lots or streets between the hours of 7AM -4PM Monday - Friday.  Pursuant to city Ordinance/Resolution No. 1998-18; and Indiana Code 20-12-3.5-3, students may NOT park at any time on City streets within the areas bordered by Walnut Street on the North; Bloomington Street on the east, Berry Street on the South and Jackson Street on the West, unless otherwise noted above in the section of Where students may park.

Parking and traffic is very congested on ad around campus.  Knowing WHERE you can park is the most efficient means of avoiding unnecessary fines, vehicle impoundment, and possible revocation of vehicle privileges at DePauw.
