Intern Position Description
Position title: Leadership Intern
Division: Student Services
Reports to: Cara Setchell, Assistant Dean of Students
Primary purpose:
The primary role of the Leadership Intern is to fill a leadership need on campus by working in a Student Services department. Internships will be project-based and connected to a specific dimension of student leadership and how student leaders can impact campus issues related to the work of a particular office.
Essential Functions:

Work a total of 7-8 hours each week in a Leadership Intern placement, excluding break periods, the week prior to finals, and finals week. Total work hours include five hours of “office hours.” Hours will vary for each internship as well as the time of year. Detailed position descriptions will be written for each intern placement.

Assist in the planning and execution of leadership workshops and events on campus.

Attend a one hour bi-weekly professional development workshop with other Leadership Interns to discuss leadership theories, readings, and campus or current events that will assist in Leadership Intern placement. Maintain a journal regarding Leadership Intern placement and share reflections with other Leadership Interns and supervisor.

Participate in required Leadership Intern retreats in the Spring and Fall semesters (students who will be off campus during the Spring 2007 semester will be excused from the Spring Retreat).

Attend a 30 minute bi-weekly one-on-one with supervisor and a 30 minute bi-weekly one-on-one with site supervisor.
Qualifications:

Candidates must be full-time students for the 2007-2008 academic year. Preference may be given to candidates who can commit to working the entire academic year, but students who will be off campus one semester during the academic year are still encouraged to apply.

Candidates must carry a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and be in good academic and social standing with the University.

Strong candidates will be at least a first semester junior for the Fall 2007 semester.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to their leadership development and/or hold leadership roles on campus.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work in a professional, confidential setting.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work with and be sensitive to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Candidates should have experience in working collaboratively with others.

Candidates should have excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Compensation:
Students will receive a $250 stipend for each semester they work. Half of the stipend will be paid by the Dean of Student’s Office, and half will be paid by the placement office
