If you have information you would like to share about your experience with any of these faculty members, please write to the Committee On Faculty (a faculty-governed committee which makes recommendations to the President regarding personnel decisions), c/o Carol Cox, Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall, or via email to COFcoord@depauw.edu by the following deadlines:
- For Tenure review candidates by September 1, 2008
- For Interim review candidates by October 6, 2008
- For Term review candidates by September 15, 2008
Because of the University’s open file policy, the candidate will see all such submissions. Thus, you are asked either to indicate your awareness of this in your letter, or to complete and attach an open file form which can be obtained at the COF Web site: http://www.depauw.edu/acad/facgov/COFFiles/COF.asp or in the Office of Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall.
The most helpful letters are those confined to personal experience of the letter writer. Since the criteria for review cover a broad set of categories spread over teaching, professional development, and service, your letter should only speak to your first-hand experience with the faculty member under review. It is neither helpful nor appropriate for a letter writer to make a recommendation for the outcome (e.g., granting tenure or promotion) since that implies a judgment based on incomplete information. A formal recommendation will be made by the review committees upon examination of all lines of evidence contained in the decision file.

Playing God? Biotechnology and Human Good
“It was the secrets of heaven and earth that I desired to learn.”
-Victor Frankenstein
Essay Contest, $300 prize
Deadline extended for entry is Tuesday, April 15
Sponsored by The Commons Project at DePauw University, which is a grant-supported initiative that works toward the constructive engagement of science and religion
Please respond to the following in approximately 1500 words:
Human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, in vitro fertilization, pre-implantation genetic screening, designer babies, organ transplantation, patented mice, cryogenics - biotechnology offers humans ever greater mastery over the biological world, our origins, our nature and our fate. Are there limits to what we should do? Are we crossing sacred boundaries with our science, assuming for ourselves prerogatives that were never meant for humankind? Or are we merely using the tools we have been given to improve the lives of our fellow creatures?
*Top prize in value of $300 and other prizes may be awarded.
Please submit papers to marjorielytle@depauw.edu
Entries will be judged by the Commons Project Steering Committee, consisting of faculty, staff, student, and other community representatives.

| FLOW: For Love Of Water |
|
Wednesday, April 9
7 - 8:30 p.m.
Olin Auditorium
Water is the essence of life, sustaining every being on this planet. Without water, there would simply be no plants, no animals, and no people. But the global water supply isn't just at risk, it's already in crisis.
With an unflinching focus on politics, pollution and human rights, FLOW: For Love of Water ensures that the precarious relationship between humanity and water can no longer be ignored. While specifics of locality and issue may differ, the message is the same; water, and our future as a species, is quickly drying up. Armed with a thirst for survival, people around the world are fighting for their birthright; unless we instigate change, we face a world in which only those that can pay for their water will survive.
