Winter storm information

The recent severe straight line winds this week, and pending snow storm for tonight and tomorrow are great reminders to be prepared for any kind of emergency. This time of year, ice, snow, severe wind chill, and high winds can create dangerous situations. As we face a potential winter storm , we wanted to remind students of the following information.

In the event that a life threatening weather emergency is forecasted, such as a tornado warning and imminent danger to the campus, an emergency alert will be sent to the campus, including a message to subscribed numbers by Jyngle. If you are not yet subscribed to Jyngle you may follow the link below and register your cell phone to receive such messages. http://www.jyngle.com/group/fuJtr6XvIx

In the event of heavy snow or winter storms, in most cases, campus life, classes and business operate as scheduled. In the event Putnam County issues a Snow Emergency a determination will be made as to the impact upon campus operations. In the rare event classes are canceled student notification will be made through DePauw e-mail, campus media, WISH -TV, FOX 59 TV, and University Web site.

This is also an appropriate time to consider Fire Safety during extremely cold weather. Please use safety precautions with space heaters, extension cords, electrical plug strips, heat blankets, etc... Do no overload electrical circuits, or leave heat sources unattended or close to combustible / flammable objects.
