MEMORANDUM TO: DePauw University Students
SUBJECT: Undergraduate Ethics Symposium at the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics
This e-mail is to inform you about the Undergraduate Ethics Symposium on April 3-5 at the newly dedicated Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics (JPIE). Students from DePauw, as well as other colleges and universities, are invited to submit essays and creative writing works. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2008. We are shaping this conference around a series of workshops in which students present to one another their best work on a subject of ethical concern. For more information and to view the Call for Essays and Creative Writing Projects and the submission requirements click on the following link: http://prindleinstitute.depauw.edu/programs/ethics_symposium08.asp.
Let me say at the outset that we are hoping to receive from students thoughtful and insightful essays and creative writing works which explore, analyze and examine ethical issues in a variety of ways. The students whose works are accepted for the symposium will benefit from the critiques and comments of their peers in the seminar, and also from the visiting scholar or creative writer who will direct the workshop. Our goal is that each student who participates in the Symposium will have a polished piece of writing which s/he can then submit in a portfolio, a graduate school application, or a job application. The Institute will also select a number of the student works to publish, along with the writings of the visiting scholars and creative writers.
Please give me, Paddy McShane, JPIE Fifth-Year Intern, a call (x4075) or send an email (pmcshane@depauw.edu) if you have any questions about the Symposium. You may also contact Professor Martha Rainbolt, Chair of the JPIE Faculty Advisory Committee, with questions (rainbolt@depauw.edu).
Many Thanks,
Paddy McShane, Fifth-Year Intern
