| DePauw Hunger banquet |
|
Wednesday, November 14
4:30 - 6 p.m.
Union Building Ballroom
A unique and memorable event, the Oxfam America Hunger banquet allows organizers and participants alike to experience firsthand how our decisions affect others in the world. After an Oxfam America Hunger banquet, few participants leave with full stomachs, but all possess a greater understanding of the problems of hunger and poverty and will hopefully be motivated to do something about them.
What is Oxfam? Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice. Together with individuals and local groups in more than 120 countries, Oxfam saves lives, helps people overcome poverty and fights for social justice. Anyone wishing to attend this event should register via evite invitation. You can email to request an invitation.
This event is open to the entire DePauw community and all residents of Putnam County. While everyone is welcome, children under 14 will probably not enjoy the same experience as older teens and adults.

| Fraternal Order of Police announcement |
|
The Fraternal Order of Police members will be transporting Santa Claus around Putnam County in marked police cars delivering present to needy children. This way children can talk with police officer and Santa at the same time. The Fraternal Order of Police has put together this program for the past ten years and it has been a huge success. The Fraternal Order of Police could use the publics help, so that we may reach more children in Putnam County. You can help by dropping off unwrapped presents at any Putnam County Police Agency with a note that says F.O.P. Christmas. These agencies include Cloverdale Police, Bainbridge Police, Roachdale Police, Russelville Police, Greencastle Police, DePauw Police and Sheriff’s Department. We are also looking for new coats, gloves and hats for children.
Deadline for dropping off presents is December 18.
If you have any questions feel free to contact Chief Tom Sutherlin, Asst. Chief Brian Hopkins or Darcy Hendershot at the Greencastle Police Department (765-653-2925).
Sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police of Putnam County. DePauw Public Safety (c/o Charlene Shrewsbury) is a drop off for University staff, faculty and students.

| Announcement of faculty promotion reviews for 2007-2008 |
|
The following faculty members will be considered for promotion review this year 2007-2008.
To Professor
Matthew Balensuela – School of Music
Terri Bonebright – Psychology
Mitch Merback – Art
Caroline Smith – School of Music
Sheryl Tremblay – Communication and Theatre
Scott Wilkerson – Geosciences
To Associate Professor
Vanessa Artman – Biology
Ronald Dye – English/Communication and Theatre
Brian Howard – Computer Science
Jamie Stockton – Education Studies
To With Rank of Professor
Kathryn Millis – Library
Rick Provine - Library
If you have information you would like to share about your experience with any of these faculty members, please write to the Committee On Faculty, c/o Carol Cox, Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall, by Monday November 26. E-mail submissions should be sent to: COFcoord@depauw.edu.
This committee makes recommendations to the President. Because of the University open file policy, all such submissions will be available to the individual faculty member. Thus, you are asked either to indicate your awareness of this fact in your letter, or to complete an open file form which can be obtained in the Office of Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall or on the COF Web site: http://www.depauw.edu/acad/facgov/COFFiles/COF.asp.
The most helpful letters are those confined to personal experience of the letter writer. Since the criteria for review cover a broad set of categories spread over teaching, professional development, and service, your letter should only speak to your first-hand experience with the faculty member under review. It is neither helpful nor appropriate for a letter writer to make a recommendation for the outcome (e.g., granting tenure or promotion) since that implies a judgment based on incomplete information. A formal recommendation will be made by the review committees upon examination of all lines of evidence contained in the decision file.
Jeff Kenney
Chair, Committee on Faculty
