| Let’s Talk About “IT” |
|
Tuesday, October 30
7 p.m.
Kresge Auditorium
Kelly Addington and Rebecca Tieder believe that the secret to reducing sexual violence on campus is to empower students with the knowledge, tools and desire to make their community a safer place. The issue of sexual assault is frightening for college students as they explore freedom, sexuality, substance use and sexual politics for the first time. As many as one in three women and one in six men will be assaulted during their lifetimes, almost everyone will have a friend who is assaulted, yet students are still afraid to talk about it. Kelly and Becca are all about breaking the silence. With their upbeat tone and honest approach, they immediately get students sharing and talking about the realities of sex on campus and sexual assault. In their original program they address sexual assault on today’s college campus, offer solutions for improved communication and encourage personal safety while speaking honestly about sex. They share their personal experience of surviving sexual assault and the importance of their friendship in healing, while empowering students with both the desire and tools to help make their campus a safer place. This is an honest program with a refreshing approach that inspires and empowers students to take action. Let's Talk About "IT” proudly celebrates all that college has to offer, both the freedom and the responsibility.
Kelly and Becca talk openly about sex, communication and personal responsibility. Alcohol, sex under the influence, date rape drugs and rape trauma syndrome are all addressed head on. This program, perfect for any type of student programming, puts the responsibility on the students to do everything they can to prevent and address the realities of sexual violence on their campus.
Sponsored and funded by DePauw Student Services, Residence Life, Public Safety and the "CARe: Communities Against Rape Initiative through the Indiana State Department of Health, CDC, Rape Prevention Education Grant."
