Announcements
Announcement of spring faculty review for
2007 – 2008 |
|
The following faculty member will be considered for review during the spring semester 2007 – 2008
Tenure & Promotion
Raymonda Burgman - Economics
If you have information you would like to share about your experience with this faculty member, please write to the Committee On Faculty, c/o Carol Cox, Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall, by Monday January 28, 2008. E-mail submissions should be sent to: COFcoord@depauw.edu.
This committee makes recommendations to the President. Because of the University open file policy, all such submissions will be available to the individual faculty member. Thus, you are asked either to indicate your awareness of this fact in your letter, or to complete an open file form which can be obtained in the Office of Academic Affairs, 305 Harrison Hall or on the COF Web site: http://www.depauw.edu/acad/facgov/COFFiles/COF.asp.
The most helpful letters are those confined to personal experience of the letter writer. Since the criteria for review cover a broad set of categories spread over teaching, professional development, and service, your letter should only speak to your first-hand experience with the faculty member under review. It is neither helpful nor appropriate for a letter writer to make a recommendation for the outcome (e.g., granting tenure or promotion) since that implies a judgment based on incomplete information. A formal recommendation will be made by the review committees upon examination of all lines of evidence contained in the decision file.

Chair, Committee on Faculty

| Student Services DeBlog |
|
In an effort to increase overall communication and capitalize on technology that speaks to students, various staff in the Division of Student Services will be contributing to the Student Services DeBlog. Most bloggers in the cyberverse write from their own perspectives and their postings reflect their experiences and points of view; thus, the postings represent the opinions of individual contributors and not necessarily the University. This type of communication is meant to be "off the cuff", informal and accessible. As contributors, we welcome comments by phone, in person or via E-mail.
Please view the Student Services DeBlog at: http://www.depauw.edu/student/services/deblog.asp.

| Sculptor Patrick Dougherty |
|
Wednesday, October 31
4 p.m.
Peeler Auditorium
The Art Department and ArtsFest would like to welcome and announce the visit of internationally recognized sculptor Patrick Dougherty. Patrick will be creating a site-specific environmental sculpture on campus made of native materials north of the UB during the month of November. He will also lecture on his work in conjunction with Susan Watt Grade. Patrick has created over 150 sculptures throughout the US, Europe and Asia over the last two decades. Patrick's most recent commission was completed at Middlebury College last month. Some of his noted commissions include the Morton Arboretum in Chicago, Cornell University, Brown University, and the Willow Project in Scotland. View previous installations at his Web site: http://www.stickwork.net/.
Susan has been commissioned to complete a site-specific outdoor sculpture for DePauw's ArtFest 2007, which will utilize salvaged materials to recreate a portion of the Nature Park's quarry wall on campus. Working with materials literally on the edge of their utility-styrofoam packing, computer detritus-her work infuses new meaning and purpose to these otherwise non-recyclable items.

|
Wednesday, November 14
4:30 - 6:00 p.m.

A unique and memorable event, the Oxfam America Hunger banquet, allows organizers and participants alike to experience firsthand how our decisions affect others in the world. After an Oxfam America Hunger banquet, few participants leave with full stomachs, but all possess a greater understanding of the problems of hunger and poverty and will hopefully be motivated to do something about them. What is Oxfam? Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice.
Together with individuals and local groups in more than 120 countries, Oxfam saves lives, helps people overcome poverty and fights for social justice. Anyone wishing to attend this event should register via evite invitation. You can email depauwhungerbanquet@gmail.com to request an invitation.
This event is open to the entire DePauw community and all residents of Putnam County. While everyone is welcome, children under 14 will probably not enjoy the same experience as older teens and adults.
