Gobin Chapel Intern Program

As a partnership between Gobin Church and DePauw’s Center for Spiritual Life, the Chapel Intern Program exists (1) to create opportunities for DePauw students to discern and explore their gifts for Christian ministry, (2) to enhance and assist the ministries of Gobin Church and (3) to strengthen the relationship between Gobin and DePauw.

Chapel interns serve 4-6 hours a week in ministry-related activities, the specifics of which are decided upon in collaboration with their direct-supervisor (the pastor of Gobin or the University Chaplain). Activities fall under one of four categories, with possible job tasks listed below, as examples:

Passionate Worship

·      Planning aspects of a worship service (Sunday morning, Christmas Tree Lighting at DePauw, Mendenhall Chapel service)
·      Leading aspects of a worship service (Scripture reading, prayer, drama, music, visual arts and design)

Risk-Taking Mission and Service

·      Assisting with community-outreach programs, such as Transformers
·      Relationship building (visitation with sick, house-bound)

Intentional Faith Development

·      Supporting small groups (college groups, Sunday School, youth group)
·      Facilitating chapel prayer services throughout the week

Radical Hospitality

·      Creating and communicating a welcoming space for college students at Gobin (relationship-building, web design, aesthetics,)
·      Assisting with assimilation for new community members

Ideal candidates are those interested in exploring their gifts for Christian ministry and nurturing their own spiritual growth.

Additional expectations include an hourly one-on-one meeting with the direct supervisor (twice a month), for the purpose of vocational discernment, visioning and goal setting, and task evaluations. Less frequent meetings with fellow chapel interns may also be expected.

Compensation: $7.25/hr
