University-owned Duplexes
Our duplexes offer students the opportunity to live autonomously with friends.
Our university-owned duplexes are located in the west neighborhood, housing students in groups of four or six.
Four-person duplexes have four single bedrooms, kitchen, living room, one bathroom, central air conditioning and laundry within the unit. Four-person duplexes have two units: one unit upstairs and one on the main level. Students who select to live in these units are part of a group of four that live on one of the levels. Four-person duplex
Six-person duplex
Fred S. Silander House (109 W. Hanna #1) | Dr. Silander taught economics, served as Vice President of Finance & and as Vice President of Academic Affairs until his retirement in 1991.
Deloss W. Minshall House (109 W. Hanna #2) | Minshall gave $50,000 to DePauw for a chemistry and physics laboratory building. On June 12, 1901, the cornerstone of Minshall Laboratory was laid.
Raymond W. Pence House (109 W. Hanna #3) | Pence came to DePauw in 1916 as the James Whitcomb Riley Professor of English Literature, teaching at DePauw University for 36 years.
Matthew Simpson House (109 W. Hanna #4) | In 1839, Simpson officially became the first president of Indiana Asbury (now DePauw University), serving for nine years. Later, Simpson was spiritual/political advisor to President Abraham Lincoln and delivered the eulogies at Lincoln’s White House and Springfield, Illinois, funeral services.
David E. Lilienthal House (405 S. Jackson) | A DePauw graduate & chairman of the Tennessee Valley Authority and the first chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
Tucker Essily Wilson House (406 S. Indiana) | Wilson became the first black graduate of DePauw University.
Belle A. Mansfield House (407 S. Jackson) | Mansfield held the positions of professor and dean during her time at DePauw University. She was the first women admitted to the Bar in the U.S. as well as the only female member of Delta Chi Fraternity.
John Jacob Oliver House (409 S. Jackson) | Worked for Afro-American Newspapers, Inc. and was elected to the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame.
Truman G. Yunker House (410 S. Indiana) | Yunker headed the botany and bacteriology department at DePauw University.
Sutemi Chinda House (412 S. Indiana) | After graduating, Chinda returned to Japan, where he entered the foreign service.
Katharine Sprague Alvord House (412 S. Jackson) | Katharine Sprague Alvord was DePauw University's first dean of women.
Julia Alice Druley House (414 S. Indiana) | A teacher of music in Greencastle, she joined DePauw University's music department in 1883 to 1933.
William Martin Blanchard House (500 S. Jackson) | Blanchard came to DePauw in 1901, serving as director of admissions, dean of the college and professor of chemistry. He was a nationally-known chemist and the mentor of Percy Julian.
George W. Gore Jr. House (503 S. Jackson) | Gore ('23) served as president of Florida A&M as well as the first black graduate of a U.S. school of journalism.
Bettie Locke Hamilton House (505 S. Jackson) | Bettie Locke was one of the first four coeds to enter and graduate from Indiana Asbury. On January 27, 1870 she founded Kappa Alpha Theta.
Paul B. Kissinger House (508 S. Indiana) | Kissinger taught both physics and astronomy, receiving several teaching awards while at DePauw University (1960-2000).
Louis H. Dirks House (508 S. Jackson) | He served as Dean of Men and as professor of education from 1926 until his retirement in 1948.
