The Compton Center selects 10-12 student interns per semester through an application and interview process. There are also opportunities to help out on specific projects and campaigns.
Compton Center Interns focus their energies on developing their knowledge and understanding of a social justice issue of their choice. Interns must then share that knowledge and understanding with the greater campus community. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways. For example, interns may organize events or programs that are educational (films, speakers, panels, etc.) or characterized more by advocacy and direct action (letter writing, art activism, protests, vigils, etc.) Through their work, interns gain valuable organizational and community building skills as well as honing their critical thinking ability.
Expectations:
Candidates must be highly motivated, passionate about social justice, able to work independently & in groups with little supervision, flexible, organized, and excellent communicators.
The Compton Center also offers opportunities for travel to conferences, protests, etc.
