STUDENT INTERNS
The Compton Center selects 12-14 student interns per semester through an application and interview process. There are also opportunities to volunteer for specific projects and campaigns. Contact the Center for more information.
Roles & Responsibilities
The position of Compton Center Intern is designed primarily as an opportunity for the growth and development of students interested in issues of social justice and serves as a space for the education and empowerment of these students. As such, in the process of hiring interns, it is the duty of the Coordinator of the Compton Center to identify issues of specific interest to perspective interns and explore ways in which, by working in the Compton Center, a student can gain tangible skills and greater knowledge in his/her area of interest.
The role of the Intern includes serving as assistant to the Coordinator of the Compton Center. Interns will ideally be responsible for duties similar to those of the Coordinator, ranging from copying to research and resource development. Chief responsibilities of interns shall be focused in their specific area of social change interest. Deliverables might include developing a model campus campaign for raising consciousness about a specific issue, identifying key resources to be placed in the Compton Center related to a specific issue or developing web based resources. The specific work of interns shall be designed as an integrative component of the Compton Center’s overall agenda for the academic year.
