The Faculty Instructional Technology Support (FITS) Mission

Faculty Instructional Technology Support (FITS) assists faculty members in enhancing their teaching and their students' learning through technology. FITS is primarily concerned with the pedagogical applications of technology. As new technologies become available and old ones are adapted to play a role in teaching and learning, FITS will be involved in learning about them and assisting in their incorporation into the curriculum.

Among the functions of FITS are:

  • Assisting with developing technology projects related to teaching and learning
  • Assisting with incorporating technology into teaching and learning
  • Researching and prototyping emerging technologies
  • Referring faculty to services and resources outside FITS, especially those that provide services FITS does not offer, such as equipment purchasing, equipment and software installation and repair, drop-off production, help desk services, and classroom and lab configuration
  • Fostering collaboration across disciplines and divisions
  • Training and mentoring students who work with FITS to provide support to faculty
  • Offering summer, Winter Term, and regular semester workshops and forums
  • Providing individual consulting to faculty developing technological applications for their classes
  • Meeting with departments, especially during curricular and program reviews, to discuss their use of technology and assisting departments in developing a comprehensive plan for incorporating technology into their curriculum
  • Being aware of and helping to evaluate the needs for technology in the classroom and other learning environments
  • Serving on relevant committees charged with developing initiatives for technology and coherent structures for technology-related services on campus

FITS is concerned with the pedagogical applications of technology, rather then with explicit technical training. FITS DML logoDigital Media Lab - Located in the basement of the Roy O. West Library, the dml works closely with FITS, the Web Team, Information Services and other campus technology organizations to develop consistent and easy to use services for all faculty, students and staff. DML Music Instructional Technology Center - DePauw's School of Music includes the Music Instructional Technology Center, an advanced facility that includes a computer lab, audio production facility and mobile audio recording services. MITC GIS LogoGeographic Information Systems - The DePauw GIS Center coordinates GIS activities across campus so that information and knowledge can be shared and exchanged for the benefit of the entire DePauw community. It also collaborates with Greencastle and Putnam County communities to establish a relationship that benefits both DePauw and the surrounding region. GIS Start LogoStudent Technology Assessment, Resources, and Training - START provides students with opportunities to enhance their liberal arts education with information technology knowledge and skills. Workshops, Web-based training, courses and one-on-one training are available to all students. START students and staff members work with faculty members to provide specific course related technology training through in-class workshops. START
