FITS 5th-Year Intern Program
Initiated
by a teaching and technology grant received from the Andrew W.
Mellon Foundation, the FITS Internship offers DePauw graduates
an opportunity to work and study in a team-oriented environment
providing assistance to faculty using technology to enhance teaching
and learning.
The FITS goal is to offer a program to strengthen and support faculty's knowledge and skill in using technology in creative ways to enhance teaching and learning at DePauw. A FITS Intern is a key member in enabling DePauw to reach the goals outlined in that program and gains valuable experience in a myriad of ways through incorporating technology with education at the undergraduate college level.
Duties:
The FITS Intern will assist with all services provided by Faculty Instructional Technology Support (FITS), including
- Consulting with faculty members with projects involving technology
- Developing documentation and web pages
- Designing and developing web database and multimedia projects
- Performing setup, testing and maintenance of equipment in FITS center
- Mentoring FITS student staff members
- Preparing facilities and equipment needed for seminars
- Other specialized FITS tasks as assigned
Duration of Internship:
| Spring 2004 Internship: | January— May
2004 (for December graduate) |
| 2004-2005 Internship: | August
2004 — May 2005 |
The accepted Intern must be willing to commit to the duration of the internship.
Coursework:
FITS Interns, who are expected to be in residence at DePauw during the year, may take one course each semester. Courses may be taken both inside and outside the undergraduate major, and may be taken for a grade or on a pass/fail basis.
Interns are enrolled as special status students. For course registration purposes, they are given senior priority. Courses taken during the mellon internship are listed on the DePauw transcript, but grades are not calculated into the undergraduate GPA.
Finances:
FITS Interns receive a stipend from the University and tuition-reimbursement for courses taken. Room arrangements in University housing are possible on a space-available basis. Interns are responsible for all other costs, including other living expenses, medical fees, activity fees, course-related fees, and the like. Interns are not eligible for University financial aid, including work study, and since they are not enrolled in a degree program, they may have to begin paying off student loans.
