Instructional Technology Graduate Internship

University's office of Faculty Instructional Technology Support
(FITS) has an opening for a graduate internship during summer 2004
and the coming 2004-2005 academic year. Renewal
for a second year is possible, based on satisfactory performance.
The FITS program provides instructional and technical support for
DePauw University faculty members who explore and develop uses of
instructional technology in their teaching. The graduate intern
will work with several instructional consulting teams for particular
courses and faculty members and will participate in guiding and
organizing workshops. The internship will offer valuable experience
incorporating technology into teaching and learning in at the undergraduate
college level. Projects vary from just-in-time consulting with clients
to extensive, team-based course development projects.
The FITS graduate intern will assist with all services provided
by FITS, including:
- Developing
websites for on-campus courses
- Designing
and developing multimedia projects
- Planning
and presenting workshops about instruction and teaching to faculty
- Researching
online databases and search engines to find resources in instructional
design, pedagogy and/or course content
- Researching
new technology options (hardware and software) related to teaching
and education
- Consulting
with faculty to develop methods and techniques for using technology
in teaching
- Mentoring
and supervising student interns employed by the department
- Developing
documentation and web sites
- Performing
setup, testing and maintenance of equipment in FITS center
- Other duties
as assigned
Qualifications:
- New or recent
GLCA or CLAC college graduate or 2nd year masters/doctoral student
in Instructional Systems Technology or related field
- Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills
- User support
or equivalent experience working with people
- Technical
proficiency with software and hardware for graphical design or
page/screen layout, written documentation, computer programming,
and setting up and maintaining PC and Macintosh platforms
- Interest
in the areas of instructional consulting in higher education and/or
multimedia production for education is useful, but not required.
Graduate internships
are typically 10-month academic year positions at a minimum of 30
hours per week, with the possibility of extension through summer.
Each intern is provided with 6 credit-hours per semester of graduate
course tuition payments in an instructional technology program at
Indiana University, employee benefits (including health insurance
and eligibility to participate in retirement plan), and a monthly
stipend of $1,800-$1,950 dependent on experience and qualifications
Founded
in 1837, DePauw University is a selective, undergraduate, national
liberal arts college of 2,100 students with a separate School of
Music. The University, which has an endowment of $430 million, is
located in Greencastle, Indiana, a town of 10,000 people, within
an hour's drive of Indianapolis, Terre Haute and Bloomington.
DePauw
University announced March, 2001, the creation of a national eLearning
center on its campus, a first-of-its-kind model for learning using
technology to enhance liberal arts education. Lilly Endowment Inc.
awarded a $20 million grant to DePauw to support this new educational
initiative which links traditional liberal arts with the need for
new world skills. The Endowment grant in part supports the expansion
of FITS.
