The 2nd Annual FITS-Mellon
Summer Workshop:
Engaging Students through Technology
Call
for Projects
May
30 - June 2 & June 5, 2000This
summer's FITS workshop for faculty will focus on examining ways web-based
technologies can be used to engage students in learning and will offer
two tracks:
- Web
Design for Instruction and Learning
- Use
of Interactive Web Interfaces
The workshop
will be mini-project based and focus on linking pedagogy to course
goals. It will include plenary sessions, mini-courses, opportunities
to participate in discussion and birds-of-a-feather sessions, and
plenty of structured time to work on your project.
Who
Should Attend:
Faculty
from all disciplines are encouraged to participate to stimulate
discussion and solutions to common challenges of teaching, particularly
those that involve technology. Faculty who attend will receive a
stipend of $300.00. By the end of the workshop, each participant
will have developed a plan to implement effective use of technology
for some aspect of a course he/she teaches. Attendees will also
acquire familiarity with the resources (staff, hardware, and software)
available to support their project beyond the time.
Interested
faculty should submit an application, either e-mail or printed,
to Carl Singer (singer@depauw.edu)
by Friday April 14, 2000.
Applications
should include a brief description of a mini-project will be used
in a course taught in the 2000-2001 academic year. A mini-project
might range from creating a Web presence for an entire course to incorporating
technology into one class meeting. Space is limited so, applications
will be evaluated on feasibility of each proposed project and whether
it will enhance professional development. All
faculty members are encouraged to apply regardless of technology background.

You Have Questions . . .
