Developing a Professional Web Presence

and

Using Blackboard

January 3-22, 2003

Participant List | Workshop Resources | Winter Term Staff

Have you been thinking about developing a scholarly or professional website for yourself? Not sure how to get started? Already have a site and want to develop it further? Over the last several years, the importance of the faculty web presence has received much attention in journals and publications on teaching and learning. Faculty web sites are important ways of sharing scholarly and personal information, writings and other tidbits with colleagues around the world.

This workshop will give each faculty member the chance to explore concepts related to scholarly web authoring/publishing, create an appealing and user friendly environment, work with multimedia files and put it all together on a site published on a DePauw server. Workshop events will include hands-on instruction as well as presentations on best practices. And of course there will be food!

A concurrent workshop thread will focus on the use of Blackboard. From eReserves to the digital drop box, new and advanced users will examine the many different ways this course management tool can be used to promote student interaction. Workshop participants interested in Blackboard will have a chance to build unique Blackboard sites either as an exploration of the program or as an actual course tool for second semester.

The FITS Winter Term Workshop is open to all faculty, and is made purposefully relaxed and flexible to accommodate faculty teaching schedules.

Workshop Schedule:

In addition to the specific meeting times listed below, open lab times will be available in the ROW computer lab, Music Instructional Technology Center Computer Lab (PAC10E) and the FITS Lab. Additional hands-on workshops including Flash, digital audio and video, digital imaging and scanning will be conducted on an as-needed basis.
