Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Faculty and Staff

Staff Painting This summer we are offering DePauw University faculty and staff the chance to volunteer at some of our DePauw Community Service sites. We hope this program provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to learn more about the community, as well as what the DCS program and our volunteers do. We firmly believe that this is a great chance for community building during these summer months, as we provide these unique opportunities for the University and Greencastle community to serve and learn together.

Summer Enrichment at Gobin
Come share your time and talents with Greencastle youth at the Summer Enrichment Program!  Volunteers are encouraged to volunteer an hour or two per week to lend a hand in this great program that provides an opportunity for youth to have fun and learn new things during the summer months.  Volunteers can help with group activities Friday afternoons or be extra hands for the staff at other times during the week.  If any volunteer has a specific area of interest or knowledge and would like to design a special activity (example: art, literature, understanding of different cultures), (s)he can do so by designing the project and proposing it to the Director! The Summer Enrichment Program takes place on DePauw's campus at Gobin United Methodist Church.

Contact dcs@depauw.edu to schedule a time to volunteer.

Senior Friend at Asbury Towers
This program serves Asbury Towers retirement home and nursing facilities. Senior Friend provides volunteers with an opportunity to interact with senior citizens, gain new insights in the process of aging, and increase their understanding of individuals who are adjusting to this phase of their lives. Volunteers may choose to develop individual friendships, and/or work with the facility's activity director to assist with activities. Interaction with residents may include conversing, writing letters, reading to the residents, playing cards, or sharing talents or craft know-how.

humane societyHumane Society
The Humane Society of Putnam County is a private, not for profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to provide the community with a safe haven for abandoned, unwanted or homeless dogs and cats, and to make every effort to find new homes for those animals which would make good pets. Additionally, the HSPC publicly encourages the spaying and neutering of dogs and cats as part of responsible pet ownership.
