Sarah Ryan
Director of Hartman House and Bonner Scholars Program
Originally from upstate New York, Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science in English from the State University of New York College at Brockport in the spring of 1995. Sarah then served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member in Missouri with Literacy Kansas City, a not-for-profit adult literacy program focused on one-to-one direct service, advocacy, and education. After her year of national service, Sarah completed a Master of Science in Student Counseling and Higher Education Administration at Kansas State University. Upon graduating in May 1998, Sarah began as the Director of Volunteerism and Service-Based Learning at Butler University in Indianapolis. In January 2003, Sarah joined the DePauw staff as the Co-Coordinator of the Bonner Scholars Program. After serving as the Assistant Director of the Hartman Center for Civic Education & Leadership for the 2003-04 academic year, Sarah now works as the Director of the Bonner Scholars Program and Director of the Russell J. Compton Center for Peace & Justice. Her interests include student development theory, community-university partnerships, academic service-learning, and the relationship between direct service and activism. Sarah also enjoys traveling with her husband, walking with her dogs, and reading with her cats.
