Center for International & Experiential Education

We are devoted to student intellectual and personal growth, working collaboratively with academic and student life offices across campus, as well as external constituencies, including parents, alumni and the Greencastle community.  We value cultural and individual diversity and encourage individual creativity and commitment to personal growth.

An international and experiential education at DePauw is one in which individuals are challenged to develop multiple skills, gain new knowledge and develop greater personal awareness through reflection and synthesis of their multiple and continued experiences related to diverse, particularly global, topics and/or interests.  Through these experiences, individuals actively engage in their own education, enhancing their ability to think critically and independently, drawing connections between what they know and what they experience, all of which contribute to life-long learning.

We strive to provide a variety of services to assist DePauw international students, scholars, faculty and staff and all students who seek opportunities to study, research, or intern in the U.S. and abroad.

International Students and Scholars
International students and scholars, in growing numbers, are bringing their own experience of the world to the DePauw University community while enjoying the many benefits that a DePauw education has to offer. The CIEE assists international students, scholars, and international faculty and staff at DePauw by advising them about federal immigration, tax and labor regulations and providing counseling about personal, academic and cultural matters. In addition, the International Student and Scholars department promotes cross-cultural awareness in the DePauw and Greencastle communities through educational programming such as orientation, cultural adjustment, international events and community programs.

Off-Campus Study
Off-campus study stimulates the growth of new thinking. Leaving the shelter of familiar circumstances encourages greater self-reliance and sophistication in thought and action. With an understanding of other cultures, one becomes dramatically aware of the need to search for solutions to the problems confronting humankind. The CIEE helps students define their academic goals and identify off-campus programs that enable them to achieve those goals.

Winter Term
The month-long Winter Term, which takes place each January between fall and spring semesters, is an opportunity for students to explore academic and career pathways within a non-traditional learning environment.  Through internships, short term study abroad, independent study and on campus courses, students are engaged in hands-on learning with an emphasis on liberal arts integration.  The CIEE helps students make connections between their academic programs and the hands-on experience students pursue as part of the DePauw educational experience.
