Returning From Off-Campus Study

We in the Center for International & Experiential Education would like to formally welcome you back to campus and let you know that we understand how you must be feeling. Most of you probably enjoyed the best semester of your lives at your off-campus study sites, and now may be finding it tough to re-enter the DePauw community and educational system. Many of you have apprehensions about course work, or you may feel that you are being forced to revert to a system that you have outgrown, or you may feel restricted by the rules and limitations of campus living, or maybe you are tremendously excited to be back here. Here are a few things you should read through as you prepare to return.

Welcome Back: You've Burst the Bubble
Welcome Back: You've Burst the Bubble is a guide to help you as you settle in and readjust to life at DePauw and, perhaps, to life in the U.S. You’ll be able to relate to much of what is written, and even if you aren’t feeling these symptoms now, you might later in the semester at the "I-want-to-go-back" phase.

Off-Campus Study Evaluation
Don't forget to complete your program evaluation! All students returning from off campus are required to complete and submit an evaluation of their off-campus program. The evaluation is designed to give students a written forum to reflect on and evaluate their off-campus experience and program. We rely on students' experiences and opinions as we assess and re-evaluate the off-campus programs we make available to students. We also make evaluations available to prospective off-campus study students, with the student permission. The more a student shares about her or his experience, the more other DePauw students will benefit.

Welcome Back Reception
Each semester, we hold the Welcome Back Reception for students returning from a semester or year off campus. Cake, punch and some lively discussions take place. All students returning from off campus are required to attend this session. Please be sure to read Welcome Back: You've Burst the Bubble! to help you in your transition back to home and to DePauw.

Eye on the World
Eye on the World is a student-run publication committed to fostering cultural awareness amongst DePauw University's community. It is Eye on the World's goal to integrate American and International students for a better understanding of contemporary world affairs. If you would like to share your experience of being off campus, please contact the editor of the magazine at eotw@depauw.edu.

Post-Graduate Opportunities
If you think you want to return to your off-campus location or try out another part of the world, there are many ways to make it happen. But it doesn't usually happen overnight, so start early in thinking about where and what you would like to do. Visit the Post-Graduate link on our website for more information.
