Ordering and Financing

Ordering

  1. Access the Class of 2010 website at www.depauw.edu
  2. Follow the “Laptop Initiative” link and choose “Purchase your Laptop”
  3. You can immediately purchase either the Dell or Apple with a credit card.

NOTE:  The University requires one of the DePauw program laptops listed on the sites mentioned above.  You will receive special pricing and the following:

  • Onsite repair service from a technician on the DePauw campus and the use of a loaner while your laptop is repaired.  This is only available if you order the DePauw configuration.
  • The Dell laptop comes configured with the DePauw software image.  This software is not available separately through DePauw.
  • The Apple software is available from the DePauw Helpdesk at a cost of $169.
  • New versions of the software and virus protection updates are free while you are enrolled at DePauw.

Financing

  1. Families can choose to finance the computer with either Dell or Apple.
  • Research the computer you wish to purchase on the website listed above.  Include any additional items you may want to add.
  • If purchasing a Dell computer, call 1-866-257-4711 to inquire about financing.  Be sure to give them DePauw’s member ID# BS15644276.
  • If purchasing an Apple computer, apply for financing as you check out of the Apple Store.

Other loans

  1. If financing through Dell or Apple is not an option for you, you may want to consider using your Parent PLUS Loan or alternative loan eligibility to finance your computer purchase.  If this is an option you wish to pursue, please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 765-658-4030 to discuss all of the possible options you may have for financing.
  • If you are unable to purchase the computer yourself before receiving your loan, contact Mike Moore, Manager of Technology Procurement via email mikemoore@depauw.edu or phone 765-658-4296.  He can help arrange for DePauw to order your laptop.  This should be done no later than August 1st for probable delivery by Opening Day.  Once the Financial Aid Office is notified that your loan has been approved for disbursement, DePauw will order the laptop with any additions you have requested and it will be shipped directly to DePauw.  Your student account will be charged the total cost of the laptop, plus shipping and tax.
  • When your loan proceeds are received by DePauw your account will be credited.  If the amount of your loan is greater than the total cost of the laptop, the remainder will be applied to any other charges you have with the University.  If your account is paid in full you may be entitled to a refund.  You may request this refund by contacting the Cash Receipts Office at 765.658.4015.
  • If your laptop has been delivered prior to Opening Day on August 19, 2006, it may be picked up at the Media and User Services Office, room 162 in the Julian Science & Mathematics Center.  You will be required to show proper identification before the laptop will be released to you.

 

If your laptop was not shipped prior to Opening Day, Information Services will contact you when it arrives.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS

  1. If you are unable to obtain financing either through the laptop supplier or the loan programs, please send copies of both denials to the Financial Aid Office.  You could be considered by DePauw for a laptop rental agreement.
