Where to Recycle at DePauw

Residence Halls
All floors in the residence halls have recycling bins for co-mingled (green bins) and paper (blue bins). Cardboard should be taken directly to the blue dumpsters outside the residence halls. These bins need to be lined with a clear plastic bag. There are a total of 130 bins in the residence halls. There are also 6 outside recycling areas by residence halls.

University Owned Apartments and Houses (UOAH) units
Most UOAH units have recycling dumpsters located within about a block radius of their house or apartment. There are a total of 3 recycling areas in UOAH housing.

The Residence Life and Housing Office provides recycling containers for units that request bins (To request a bin, please enter a request on the e-Services Housing Maintenance Request system). All recyclables should be placed in clear plastic bags and placed in green RHS recycling bins. The plastic bags will be provided by the University upon request through the Housing Maintenance System on e-Services. There are 20 UOAH units that participate in curbside recycling (112 Taylor, Coan Apartments, Hanna Apartments, and some units on Jackson Street and Walnut Street).

Greek Living Units
For Greek living units that would like to have external recycling bins please contact your local trash service provider. If your provider is Refuse Handling Services (RHS) then please contact the RHS representative, Scott Moon at (765) 653-3902, to have them deliver the brown recycling bins to your living unit. RHS provides pick-up of recyclable materials as part of their trash collection service.

For Greek living units that would like to have indoor bins in addition to the RHS external recycling bins, DePauw is willing to help you start the process by donating four bins to your living unit. If you are interested in these indoor recycling bins please follow these steps:

  1. Log on to e-Services
  2. Click on “Housing Maintenance Request
  3. Select your Greek Living Unit from the drop-down list
  4. Enter your request for internal recycling bins

Faculty/Staff Offices
Offices can request bins through Physical Plant using the Recycling Bin Request Form. Typically, recycling bins are located in common areas that multiple faculty and staff members share. These bins need to be lined with clear plastic bags. Currently there are 141 bins in office buildings.
