Applying

Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions and must plan to be full-time undergraduates at a primarily undergraduate institution (i.e., at a school that does not have a graduate program in computer science) in September 2008. Normally applicants will be sophomores or juniors majoring in computer science. However, applications from exceptionally well-prepared first-year students or students majoring in mathematics and other sciences will also be considered if they have the background outlined in at least one of the project descriptions.

Completed applications must be received by March 12th, 2008. Decisions will be mailed by March 30th, 2008. Applications consist of the following material:

  • An electronic application which is submitted via the Web. You can only submit the application form once, but you may wish to view the application to see what questions it asks before you actually submit it. As long as you don't press the final "submit" button, you will be able to view the application with no fear of jeopardizing a future submission.
  • A current transcript (photocopy is acceptable).
  • For non-DePauw students, a faculty recommendation form from a computer science faculty member who has taught you at the college level is also required. This form can be printed by following this link to the faculty recommendation form and then selecting "print" on your web browser. Note: This requirement is waived for DePauw University Students.

Instructions for DePauw Students
You may submit an advising transcript that you print from student e-Services. This should be submitted to Dave Berque in Room 272 of the Julian Science and Mathematics Center (you may slide materials under the office door). You do not need to submit a faculty recommendation form.

Instructions for Non-DePauw Students

The transcript and faculty recommendation form should be returned to the address below at the same time in a single envelope. The materials must be received at DePauw by 5pm on March 12th, 2008. Give a faculty member the recommendation form together with a self-addressed envelope. The faculty member should complete the form, place it in the envelope, sign the flap of the envelope, and return the envelope to you. Place the sealed and signed envelope and your transcript in a second envelope which you should mail to:

Dr. Dave Berque
Computer Science Department, Room 272
