Introduction

With funding from the National Science Foundation, DePauw University will host a Computer Science research experiences for undergraduates (REU) program during during the summer of 2008.

DePauw's REU program is designed to provide talented undergraduates who are enrolled at primarily undergraduate institutions (schools that do not have their own graduate programs in computer science) with the opportunity to collaborate on a research project in Computer Science and to experience, first-hand, several of the most rewarding activities that characterize most graduate programs and research careers. If you are interested in learning about other summer research programs see this list.

About the Program
Student participants will work on a research team with other students and a faculty mentor to carry out a research project. Research teams will present their progress to the entire group at various points throughout the summer. In addition, the participants will present the final results of their work at their home institutions during the following academic year and, when appropriate, at regional and/or national conferences.

Additional Program Highlights:

  • Presentations by visiting scholars about research topics and career paths

  • BBQ's and group lunches

  • Overnight visit to a major research university to learn about opportunities for graduate study

  • Discussions about the graduate school application process

  • Opportunities to present your work during the summer and at conferences

Program Details:

  • Program runs from May 28th through August 1st, 2008

  • Students will be paid $4,000 for the ten week summer

  • A travel allowance (up to $350) will be provided for students who travel from a distance

  • All program participants will live in a DePauw University townhouse

  • Housing will be provided at a highly subsidized rate

Eligibility: By NSF Mandate, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possession and must plan to be full-time undergraduates as of September 2008. An additional requirement for DePauw's REU program is that applicants must be enrolled at a primarily undergraduate institution (i.e., at a school that does not have a graduate program in computer science).
