Creative Writing Camp

CW Camp 05The Creative Writing Camp for high school students will next be held summer 2009.

DePauw University's Department of English will offer an intensive writing camp for students who have just completed the 10th through 12th grades. The Creative Writing Camp is part of an exciting week at DePauw as students from all over the region will be here attending the annual Vocal Arts Camp and Theatre Arts Camp. While the focus of the week is writing, students will have an opportunity to interact with their peers from the other camps as well as take advantage of the university’s various facilities including its indoor swimming, track, and tennis facilities, as well as its 450 acre nature park. Over the week, students work in a variety of settings on campus reading, doing exercises writing poetry, fiction, and drama. By the end of the week, each student has a small portfolio of work they read and perform for parents and peers. Camp participants are mentored by graduating seniors from the English Writing Major at DePauw and taught by poet Joe Heithaus (Richard W. Peck Professor of Creative Writing and Associate Professor of English) and playwright/screenwriter Christine White (Assistant Professor of English). Both are DePauw faculty members and working writers. CW camp scripts
