The night before the teach-in on the 31st, a live, interactive webcast of “The 2% Solution” will be streamed to connected audiences all around the country. The screening will feature actor Edward Norton, Stanford University climate scientist, Stephen Schneider, sustainable business expert Hunter Lovins, and green jobs pioneer Van Jones, as well as various student leaders, who will discuss viable, innovative solutions to global climate change. What is the 2% Solution? The 2% Solution is an increasingly recognized emissions reduction target scenario that aims to reduce global emissions by 2 percent per year—to achieve an 80% reduction in emissions by the year 2050. This plan is by no means a complete fix. It is merely baseline strategy to limit warming to within a 2ºF increase over present levels, which has the potential to avoid the more catastrophic effects predicted at warming above 4ºF. Above 2ºF warming, sea levels could still rise on the order of several meters, accompanied by significant species loss (9-30%).
