DJ Application (MS Word)--SPRING 2009

Read This First
Please read the below information on the WGRE DJ Application process. This will give you tips for your application and the basics for applying.

Application Basics:

  1. Complete the entire application, all three pages. Only completed applications will be considered.
  2. Select the type of show for which you would like to be considered.
  3. Prioritize time slots for your show, 1 through 5, with 1 being your top choice.
  4. Clearly detail your radio experience, especially WGRE. Be specific about anything you’ve done with the station during your time as a staff member or DJ. If you don’t list your WGRE experiences completely, you might not receive the show preference you deserve.
  5. Attach a copy of your Spring 2010 Course Schedule, either written on the back of the application or printed from e-services and attached.
  6. Don’t forget to sign the Operator Agreement! These must be signed before your application can be considered.

Dual Shows:

  1. Dual Shows will be available on a limited basis this year. Shows that request three DJs will only be given to shows that demonstrate and articulate a clear need for three DJs. Most likely, this will only be allowed for Specialty Shows.
  2. Partner DJ(s) should be listed on your application and your name listed on your partner’s. Attach your applications and submit in one stapled packet. Both applications must be complete and your show time preferences should match one another.
  3. After the application deadline, additional DJs will not be added to shows, so please get these filled out before you submit your application.

Show Selection/Scheduling Criteria and Preferences:

  1. Semesters of WGRE Experience
  2. Previous Airchecks for returning WGRE DJs. These should either be consistently good or show improvement for returning DJs to receive a better time slot.
  3. Programming Related Issues- I.e. Scheduled news programming, sports programming, etc.

Specialty Shows:

Specialty show DJs design their own radio show centered on a unique theme or topic. These can be almost anything (so long as it is appropriate) so be creative! The number of specialty shows are limited and generally rewarded to experienced DJs, but anyone who has a good idea is encouraged apply. To apply for a specialty show, a 1-2 paragraph show typed, detailed description is required to be attached to the application and a 3-5 minute demo CD that demonstrates the type of show being applied for is encouraged.

This coming semester (Spring 2010), WGRE is offering five slots for “Specialty Morning Shows” in addition to the other regular specialty shows scheduled each semester. These will take place from 8-10 AM, Monday through Friday, and will be given to experienced WGRE DJs.

General Specialty Show Information

  • The number of specialty shows offered is limited, and will be determined by the Program Director and Station Manager.
  • “Random” shows will more than likely not be selected. It is ideal to have a solid, interesting theme. This will increase the likelihood you will get a show. The more developed the idea, the more likely your show will be chosen.
  • Seniority does not count- A novice DJ team can put together a successful specialty show just as easily as a more veteran DJ.
  • WGRE rarely airs specialty shows with the same theme- make your show unique!
  • Specialty shows are not exempt from the rules of WGRE. These shows must follow the program log and abide by all station policies.
  • Specialty shows are expected to be well planned and well executed each week. If the WGRE Directors feel that you are not putting forward a good product, your show may be taken off the air.
  • Specialty show DJs are responsible for making Promos for their show each semester- also, please work with the WGRE Promotions team before promoting your show around campus and in the community.
  • The Program Director can revoke specialty show privileges at any time if your show is found to be below WGRE standards of good sound or taste.
