61-foot Shot Put Tigers in the Dance
March 3, 2006
If you haven't heard
already, you must have been living in the wilderness. Austin Brown threw
up the ball from half-court in the final second of the DePauw Men's
basketball game versus Centre. The teams were locked at 61-61 in a fight
for the 2006 SCAC Championship. The ball had been tipped on a Centre
in-bound pass, and Austin "was in the right place at the right time."
His seemingly desperate shot banked off the glass and through the hoop
to propel the Tigers into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
WGRE's own Wes Anderson and Steve Powell were in Memphis, the site of
the SCAC Tournament, with the call. ESPN picked up the story the
following day, making it their "Play of the Day" and mentioning on
several of their shows across at least two channels (ESPN and ESPN2, not
to mention ESPN Radio).
Now WGRE has obtained video of the closing seconds of the game. Watch as
the ball is tipped into Austin's waiting hands, and listen as Wes and
Steve breathlessly give you the play-by-play. After that, ESPN Motion
has an interview with Austin. All-told it's over 2 minutes of footage.
Enjoy from your friends at WGRE!
