DePauw University 14, Sewanee 10
Offense B: The Tigers had no problem starting drives, but they just couldn’t finish them with points. Not having Jeremiah Marks didn’t help matters, but credit must be given to Dorrius Ford and Bear Packnett for combining for 118 yards on the ground in Marks’ absence.
Defense B: Sewanee was able to pop a couple big plays, but for the most part this was another solid defensive effort. The Tigers did not force a turnover for the first time all season and had just one sack, but any time you can hold a team to ten points, you’ve had a pretty good day at the office.
Special Teams B: The kicking game struggled again, as Brendan Smith missed two more field goals. But that’s offset by the fantastic performance by freshman punter Adam Hill, who pinned Sewanee inside the 10 on all four of his punts.
Coaching A -: Give credit to Matt Walker for not deviating from his usual game plan even with his star running back on the shelf. The Tigers didn’t change their stripes, even when the offense came up empty, and it paid off in the end.
Intangibles A : After Sewanee took a 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter, DePauw responded with the go-ahead TD on their next drive. That shows the heart of this Tiger squad.

Fourth Quarter

DePauw University 38, Centre College 7
Offense A : The Tigers hung 31 offensive points on a team that had allowed exactly that many in the first two games of the season. They completely neutralized Centre’s star linebackers. The DePauw offensive line is absolutely a brick wall right now, and Spud Dick and Jeremiah Marks continue to shine.
Defense A + : Hard not to give a perfect grade when you consider the school-record SEVEN interceptions. One of them, by Mike Sprengnether, went all the way back for a Tiger touchdown. This is a deep and fast unit.
Special Teams B-: Two more missed field goals by Brendan Smith brings this grade down a notch, but freshman Adam Hill has looked terrific in his limited punting opportunities.
Coaching A: This was a revenge game of sorts for the Tigers, who lost to Centre last season. Matt Walker wanted to pay these guys back, and he kept his team’s composure after a slow start led to a scoreless first quarter.
Intangibles A : DePauw’s first impression on their home field was a pretty good one, to say the least.

Game Audio:
First Quarter
Second Quarter
Third Quarter
Fourth Quarter

DePauw University 47, Anderson University 7
Offense A : Spud Dick reached a career high in passing yards, and Jeremiah Marks ran for three scores. The defense set the Tigers up with great field position all game long, and the offense took advantage by scoring their most points in a season opener since 1906.
Defense A :The only reason this isn’t an A+ is because they didn’t get the shutout. Other than that, this was a virtuoso performance by the D – seven turnovers forces is a pretty good day at the office.
Special Teams B: Brendan Smith missed an extra point and a field goal, but it’s fair to blame the field conditions for that. The Tigers did allow two long kick returns, but one of them was on a reverse.
Coaching A : Matt Walker had his charges ready to play. They’ve done a complete 180 since a lethargic scrimmage against Franklin two weeks ago. The best part about Walker’s coaching job on Saturday? He didn’t have Spud Dick on the hands team.
Intangibles A : This is exactly the kind of statement a team wants to make to open the season.
