MANAGING WEB PAGES WITH FRONT PAGE 2002

Working with Text
You can begin entering text into your web page just as you would in a word processor and then use the buttons on the toolbar to format the text.

  • Text Style, Font and Size: Use the combo boxes on the text-formatting bar to change your Text Style, Font and Font Size.
  • Rich Text - Bold, Italic and Underline: Use the B, I, and U buttons on the text-formatting bar to change the appearance of selected text to bold, italics or underline.
  • Alignment, Lists, and Indenting: The next buttons on the text-formatting bar allow you to select left, center, or right alignment, insert bulleted or numbered lists, and increase or decrease the indent level for a piece of text.
  • Text Color: The next two buttons on the text-formatting bar change the highlight and text color. Click the tiny arrow beside the font color box to see the color palette and select a color.

Inserting Links & Bookmarks Links - Any element on your page can be a hyperlink. The procedure is the same for making text or pictures hyperlinks.

  1. In Page view, type the text you want to use as a hyperlink and then select it. (Or select an image.)
  2. Click the Hyperlink button .
  3. Navigate to the web in which the destination page or file is located, and then select the page or file.

Bookmarks - On a very long page, you can set up bookmarks (or anchors) on the page and link to them from other areas of the page. You first insert and name the bookmark (outlined below), and then you create a link to it using the bookmark button in the Create Hyperlink window (see above).

  1. In Page view, position the cursor where you want to create a bookmark, or select the text for the bookmark.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Bookmark.
  3. In the Bookmark name box, type the name of the bookmark.

Inserting Images
Images add interest to a web page. They may be scanned pictures or ones found on the web which are not protected by copyright. (When in doubt, assume that images on the web are copyrighted).

  1. In Page view, position the cursor where you want to insert a picture.
  2. Click the button Insert Picture from File (or on the insert menu, click picture, then from file).
  3. Browse to the picture you want and then select the file. You can specify the type of file you want to view in the Files of type box.

To edit the image, right-click on the image. In the pop-up menu, select Picture Properties.

On the Appearance tab, you can change the picture's layout, including alignment, border and spacing. You can also modify the picture's size, although it's important to remember that this will NOT affect the picture's file size or download time. If you have a very large picture, use a photo editor software (like Photo Composer or Paint) to resize it.

On the General tab you can edit the picture’s source, type and hyperlink location.

Inserting Tables
Tables are the best way to align text in columns, or to align text and images.

  1. In Page view, position the insertion point where you want to insert the table.
  2. On the Table menu, point to Insert, click Table.
  3. In the Rows box, enter the number of rows.
  4. In the Columns box, enter the number of columns.
  5. In the Alignment box, select the position for the table on the page.
  6. In the Border size box, enter the width you want for the table border in pixels. If you do not want a border, type 0.
  7. To change the table's cell padding (space between a cell's border and content), enter a number in the Cell padding box.
  8. To change the table's cell spacing (the space between cells), enter a number in the
    Cell spacing box.
  9. To change the table's width, do one of the following:
    • Select In pixels, then type the width you want the table to be in pixels.
    • Select In percent, then type a percentage of the available width you want the table to be.

Do not use a size larger than 605 pixel (or 100%) when you use the regular template, or else it will alter the whole page layout. If you use the wide template, you can go up to 765 pixel (or 100%).

Note: The properties that you specify for the new table will be used as the default properties the next time you create a table.

To edit the table properties, right-click inside the table. On the pop-up menu, Click Table Properties. You can then select from many options including border size, table width, and background colors or images.
