Warbling Vireo
Vireo gilvus
Vireo family (Vireonidae)
Greenish-gray back, whitish underneath, whitish eyebrow.
Habitat:
Deciduous forest.
Nesting:
Cup-like nest is suspended from a branch of a deciduous tree. Eggs are white with brown spots. Clutch size – 3 to 4 eggs.
Voice:
Song is a series of long melodious warbling phrases separated by short pauses.
Name Origin:
The genus name Vireo is from the Latin for “green.” The species name gilvus is from the Latin for “yellowish.”
In the Nature Park:
Neotropical migrant. Warbling Vireos are common in riparian forests along the Creekside Trail.
