Purple Coneflower

Flowers:
Flowers are showy, shaped like daisies, up to 3 inches in diameter, with purple ray flowers and large brownish disc flowers.

More Information:

The genus name Echinacea is from the Greek for "spiny one," as in a hedgehog, referring to the spiny scales of the receptacle (where the flower is attached to the stalk).  The species name purpurea is from the Greek for "purplish."
