The seismograph, Model EQ-1 (Next Generation Science), is located in a second floor classroom of the Julian Science and Mathematics Center. The unit is a horizontal beam seismograph that is designed to continuously record vertical changes in ground movement. The seismogram below is refreshed once every five minutes.
The seismogram above records seismic activity worldwide. Each horizontal line is one hour of time. The lowermost horizontal line on the seismogram is recording the latest activity. The time units on the left side are in UTC hours (Universal Time Coordinated). The bottom units are in minutes with 0 minutes on the left and 60 minutes on the right. To convert UTC time to local Indiana time, subtract five hours (four hours when Daylight Savings is in effect) from the UTC time. The list of earthquakes below shows the most recently recorded earthquakes as determined by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The time given in this box is in local Indiana time (add five hours (four if Daylight Savings is in effect) to get the UTC time).
