Cheira Lewis

Associate Professor of Modern Languages (French)

Main De Fatima symbolAssociate professor of French and Francophone studies Cheira Lewis came to DePauw in 2007 from Florida State University where she completed her PhD in French and Francophone studies. Her major fields are contemporary Francophone cultures and postcolonial theory. Her current research focuses on contemporary franco-maghrebi cinema and representations of terrorism and rape on screen. In addition to teaching French language courses, she has taught a first year seminar on Arab women writers & filmmakers which include the innovative works of Saadawi, Mernissi, and Labaki among many others.
