DePauw University musicians have performed throughout the world in such educationally and musically enriching locations as Japan, Italy, Spain, France, Austria, The Czech Republic, Great Britain, and Canada, to name a few of the exciting performance destinations since the School's touring program began in 1975. DePauw ensembles also travel regularly within the continental U.S. and have toured the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest and Western states, as well as Hawaii. These national tours have included appearances at locations such as Carnegie Recital Hall, the Terrace Theatre at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the White House.

South Africa

In January 2018, members of the DePauw Chamber Singers, University Choir and the College of Liberal Arts spent 22 days on a performing and learning experience guided and taught by local experts in South African choral singing. The three-week excursion started with several days of rehearsal at a nature camp in the north, where the students spent time polishing concert repertoire, learned a set of songs in a mixture of South African traditions, and studied the cultural and political history of the ethnic groups where the songs originated. The group traveled south through several cities, residing in local choral communities and sharing concert experiences with school choirs, church choirs and community choirs, and visiting sites of cultural and historical interest along the way. The tour culminated in the great South African city of Cape Town.

London

The DePauw Chamber Symphony toured England in January 2017. Led by Orcenith Smith, the ensemble performed two concerts in London, and one each in Oxford and Bath, with stops at Stonehenge and Stratford-upon-Avon along the way. DePauw School of Music faculty artist Nicole Brockmann was featured throughout the tour as the viola soloist on Max Bruch’s Romanze for Viola and Orchestra, Op. 85, and also helped prepare students for the trip with extracurricular, humor-filled lectures on English history, music and culture.

Germany/Austria

In January 2015, the DePauw Chamber Symphony presented five concerts in Germany and Austria. Traveling every other Winter Term since 1975 and led by Orcenith Smith, founder and conductor of the Chamber Symphony, the 2015 ensemble performed two concerts in Vienna (Musikverein Brahms-Saal and the Vienna Institute for the Blind), and one each in Salzburg (the famed Mozarteum) and Oberammergau, with an additional stop in St. Leonhardt am Forst. DePauw faculty member Nicole Brockmann was featured as the viola soloist in John Woolrich’s Ulysses Awakes! and helped prepare students for the trip with extracurricular lectures in German/Austrian history, music and culture.

Mexico

In 2014, the DePauw Chamber Singers embarked on a concert tour of Houston, Texas; Mexico City, Mexico, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. The choir collaborated in presenting several joint concerts with high school students, and partnered with the Purple Songs Can Fly project to record songs written by children undergoing cancer treatment at the Texas Children’s Hospital. In Mexico City, they presented three concerts at the Museo de Cuevas in Mexico City’s central square and the Temple of San Francisco Javier in Tepotzotlán – a gorgeous Baroque-era chapel built in 1580, which is considered one of Mexico’s great architectural and artistic treasures. Following the group's time in Texas, the Chamber Singers returned to Indiana to give a performance and clinic for educators from around the state at the Indiana Music Education Conference in Fort Wayne.

The White House

In December 2014, the DePauw Chamber Singers, Cello Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Asbury String Quartet traveled to Washington D.C., where each student ensemble played multiple concerts, providing a full day of music at the White House as part of the holiday season.
