To be admitted to the School of Music, you must first apply to DePauw through the Common Application. Applicants are encouraged to apply Early Action (no later than December 1) to ensure their application is received and reviewed ahead of their audition visit. Upon submitting your application to DePauw, you will receive an email with instructions on scheduling your audition and accessing your student portal.
NOTE: Most School of Music applicants will receive an admission decision from the College of Liberal Arts prior to auditioning for the School of Music. However, ahead of an initial admission decision, we encourage you to reserve your audition visit early. Applicants who do not demonstrate strong academic performance may not be eligible to audition. Applicants should confer with their admission counselor, before finalizing travel plans for their audition visit.
Pre-screen auditions are only required for vocalists. Instrumentalists should plan on auditioning during one of the on-campus (or off-campus) audition dates listed below. For vocalists, an unedited pre-screen video recording of two of the three required audition pieces should be submitted no later than December 1 to your student portal. Applicants are advised not to finalize any travel plans until they are informed of the pre-screen audition results.
ON-CAMPUS AUDITION DATES
The Admission Committee prefers an on-campus audition. On-campus audition visits may include, but are not limited to, attending a performance, the audition, sample lesson with a faculty member, observing classes and rehearsals, campus tour, and music theory diagnostic exam. Please register for your audition visit by clicking on your preferred date below.
OFF-CAMPUS AUDITION DATES
If you are unable to attend one of the on-campus (or off-campus) audition visits, contact your admission counselor, to try to schedule an alternate audition date. In extraordinary circumstances (and with prior approval), we may accept a video recording in lieu of an on-campus (or off-campus) audition. If granted, applicants will be required to submit an unedited video recording clearly identifying the name of the performer, instrument, and audition repertoire to their student portal. Recorded auditions must adhere to the Audition Repertoire Requirements which can be found by clicking here.
Applicants are encouraged to apply Early Action to ensure their application is received and reviewed ahead of their audition visit. All application materials must be received no later than two weeks prior to your audition visit. All application materials should be sent to:
