PACS/Classics/ART lunch panel on "The Destruction of Memory" film and the antiquities market

Add to Calendar11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Based on the book by Robert Bevan, Tim Slade's film “#f9f9f9;" href="http://destructionofmemoryfilm.com/" target="_blank">The Destruction of Memory” delves into the complex story underlying cultural destruction — examining examples from WWII, the Former Yugoslavia, Mali and Syria, among other places. Following the film screening (Tuesday 7 pm, Peeler Auditorium), at this lunch panel guest filmmaker Tim Slade will join Professors Jeff Kenney and Rebecca Schindler and Curator Craig Hadley to discuss the question of the destruction of cultural heritage sites and the role of cultural heritage sites tied to collective memory of nations and society as a whole.  Free and open to the public; a simple lunch will be provided.  Please email k_night or use campus labs to request a lunch.

DePauw University Choirs

Add to Calendar7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Eric Schmidt, director and conductor

The DePauw Chamber Singers and University Chorus will embark on a choral journey around the world, highlighting secular songs from different countries or regions that all share the experience of changing borders and the question of national or cultural belonging. Melancholic Chinese folk tunes join moments of Basque and Irish cheerfulness. Celebrated Broadway hits soothe the gloom of Spanish poetry. And the lonely cowboy from the Wild West finally gets a chance to meet Hawai’ian beauty and South African energy. In addition to linguistic challenges, this geographic experiment will echo the theme of ever-changing borders by blurring the divisions between the two choirs.

Curious? Join us on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m.

General admission: $5

Tickets for seniors, youth and all students are free.
