Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
As we prepare to return to a thriving, in person, residential experience in the fall, the campus restart team has begun work on our campus plan. In accordance with CDC guidelines and the charge of the Campus Restart Team, please note the following updates to campus policies. We continue to work with campus partners on additional health and safety guidelines and expect to have updates by mid-July and early-August that will further outline the return to campus. The current masking policies remain in place, and will be addressed in the next update. Please remember that pre-COVID policies for learning, living and working together remain in place.
Inter-residence visitation: Effective immediately, we are rescinding the inter-residence visitation policy (students in living units other than their own) that limited students from visiting other living units. Students are now able to visit other students in any University-approved living unit.
Classroom spacing: As of August 2, 2021, DePauw will not require extra physical distancing in classrooms or other educational spaces, although we will take steps to correct some isolated pre-pandemic instances of classroom overcrowding. In addition, when possible, approximately 10% of the seats in each classroom will be available for extra distancing accommodations when needed. In some cases this may lead to a small decrease in classroom occupancy. seats in classrooms. Additional information will be shared with faculty shortly so they can plan appropriate enrollment limits for their courses.
Off-Campus Guests on Campus: As of August 4, 2021, we are rescinding the 2020 Off Campus Guests on Campus policy. All guests must follow the current campus guidelines at time of their visit. Swipe access will remain for most buildings, and some spaces may continue to operate at a lower capacity. HR is working to determine how this policy impacts minor visitors in the workplace.
Off Campus Study: DePauw is moving forward with Fall 2021 Off-Campus International Study opportunities for students. Restrictions based on The US State Department Travel Alert ranking system and current travel limitations will apply. Additional details are available by contacting Mandy Brookins at the Hubbard Center for Student Engagement. *Faculty and staff travel, both international and domestic, will be addressed in an upcoming communication.
We know that many of the changes in COVID policy provide a welcome return to ‘normal life on campus,’ for some, we understand that some changes to learning and working environments may be challenging. Decisions made regarding COVID health and safety policies continue to be made in support of the University’s commitment to providing a thriving educational and work environment, in the context of the residential experience that is core to our mission.
