Troy Tien Nguyen ’23 Alumni

DePauw is innovative and very adaptive to the demands of students and also the workforce.

Giving Back

For domestic students, going to college is a new and exciting thing. But for international students, it’s that and also going to another country to study. I experienced both. And I really appreciated everyone who helped me during my freshman year – my mentors and international ambassadors. It was also my first time in the United States. It was a big change for me. I adapted to the community very quickly and very well all thanks to the resources at DePauw and especially, the mentors. So that’s what motivated me to be a first-year mentor.

If you’re a high school student considering DePauw, the advice I’d give is to be open-minded and not afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Consider DePauw because it’s a place of diversity. Almost 30 percent of the students are international students, and that is very impressive. So you can study in an environment that is diverse and welcoming. And, I felt like I could learn a lot from students from other countries and cultures. Also, DePauw is innovative. In fall 2023, DePauw will launch the School of Business and Leadership and in 2024, it will launch the Creative School. DePauw is very adaptive to the demands of students and also the workforce.
