Kris Huffman Named Silver Medal Award Recipient; Joins Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame

Kris HuffmanGreencastle, Ind. - DePauw women's basketball coach Kris Huffman has earned the St. Vincent Health Silver Medal Award and will be among 11 women inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on April 27, 2013. The official release is available here.

The Silver Medal Award is presented each year to a living person based upon outstanding contributions to Indiana high school basketball in a capacity other than an Indiana high school basketball player or coach.  Recipients of the Silver Medal are considered to be Hall of Fame Inductees. She previously was inducted into the Iowa Basketball Hall of Fame.

In her 20th season as DePauw's women's basketball head coach, Huffman has posted a 441-102 career record and her teams have recorded at least 22 wins in 12 straight seasons, a feat accomplished by only one other school (Hope College).

Huffman guided DePauw to the 2007 NCAA Division III national championship and to the 2002 national semifinals. She has received four National Coach of the Year Honors from three different organizations and her teams have won conference championships in 13 of the last 16 seasons.

The Tigers have appeared in appeared in nine consecutive NCAA tournaments and 13 of the last 17. Huffman entered the season ranked 18th in all-time winning percentage amongst coaches on all levels of NCAA competition with 10 or more seasons of head coaching experience.

Currently her team is off to the best start in program history at 9-0 and ranked first in both national polls. The Tigers have won 34 straight regular season games.

The 1985 Iowa Miss Basketball, she led her Fort Dodge to a 1985 state championship and 1984 state runner-up finish. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, she graduated as the school’s 2nd all-time leading scorer.
