Bucket with One Second Left Sends DePauw to Defeat

Greencastle, Ind. - Randy Ollie's bucket in the paint with one second left gave visiting Oberlin a 51-49 North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw at the Neal Fieldhouse.
DePauw dropped to 14-9 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC, while the Yeomen improved to 6-17 overall and 4-10 in conference play. Six of DePauw's seven NCAC losses have come by four or fewer points.
Following a timeout, the Tigers tied the game at 49 with 18 seconds left after Barry Flynn grabbed the inbounds pass from Alex Payne and drove the right side of the lane for the layup.
Following an Oberlin timeout with 14.1 seconds left, Ollie received the ball on the right side of the lane, spun to his right and drove to the paint where he knocked in the contested, short jumper.
The Tigers called a timeout but Pat Haggin's pass to just beyond midcourt was picked off by Oberlin's Emmanuel Lewis to end the game.
DePauw got off to a slow start as the Yeomen scored the game's first 12 with the first six in the paint and the final six coming on three-pointers. The Tigers battled back to within 23-22 at the break and took their first and only lead at 24-23 on their first possession of the second half.
Oberlin led by as many as eight early in the second half, but the Tigers kept the deficit within four over the final 10 minutes. Ollie's jumper with 2:29 left made it 49-45 before Flynn's first points of the game with 2:02 left cut the Yeomen's lead to 49-47.
Connor Rich's steal gave DePauw possession, but Haggin's three-point effort was off the mark and Oberlin rebounded. Haggin picked off a Yeomen pass which eventually led to Flynn's game-tying basket.
Haggin and Kevin Sullivan led DePauw with nine points apiece with Flynn leading the way with five rebounds and Adam Botts handing out four assists.
Ollie paced Oberlin with 13 followed by Geoff Simpson with 12. Andrew Fox grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the win as the guests outrebounded DePauw, 34-22.
DePauw shot just 37.5 percent from the floor and hit just 4-16 from beyond the arc, while the Yeomen connected on 45.2 percent including 5-11 from three-point range.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, February 13, when they travel to Springfield, Ohio, where they'll face Wittenberg.
