DePauw Sweeps Hiram; Still Only Unbeaten Team in NCAC Play

Hiram, Ohio - DePauw capped off a perfect week and remained as the only unbeaten team in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings following a sweep at Hiram.

The Tigers improved to 10-12 overall and 6-0 in the NCAC, while Hiram dropped to 7-15 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Hiram jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Jessica Wahl and Sarah Loyer led off with back-to-back doubles and Jessica Bolanz followed with an RBI single.

The Tigers countered in the third with Jennifer Ridge drawing a leadoff walk and scoring on Amy Hallett's double. Haleigh Chasteen drove in Hallett with a double and pinch-runner Kay Wood scored when Linsey Button hit DePauw's third straight two-bagger.

Three more DePauw runs crossed the plate in the fourth with Catherine Conte leading off with a double and moved to third on Sammi Bell's sacrifice bunt. Kate Hendrickson drove in Conte with a single and Samantha Szyska followed with a single. Pinch-runner Megan Landahl stole third and scored on Ridge's grounder. Hallett followed with a single that plated Szyska.

Hiram added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but left the based loaded in the sixth as Emily Bichler replaced Chasteen in the circle and got the final two outs.

DePauw totaled 13 hits led by Hallett's three and two each from Button, Conte and Jamie Story. Wahl, Loyer and Janie Linger each had two of Hiram's 11 hits.

Chasteen improved to 2-3 with the win, while Bichler recorded her first save. Meghan Gardland dropped to 5-6 with the loss.

A four-run first propelled the Tigers in the nightcap as Ridge led off the game with asingle and advanced to third on Hallett's double. Chasteen drove in Ridge with a sacrifice bunt and Hallett scored when Button stole second. Bell followed with a single and, along with Button, came home on Lauren Krumweide's double.

Hiram's lone run came in the fifth as Nicole Hoy led off with a single and stole second. She moved to third on Wahl's single and came home on a double steal.

DePauw put the game away in the sixth as Landahl and Bell each singled and advanced on Szyska's sacrifice bunt. Conte singled to load the bases and Story followed with an RBI single. Story's single plated Landahl and Bell stole home. Ridge's single brought home Conte with the final run.

Ridge and Bell each had two of DePauw's 11 hits as nine different Tigers had at least one. Wahl, Loyer and Hoy paced the Terriers with two apiece.

Bichler improved to 4-4 with the complete game victory and struck out 10 with just one walk. Sarah Berger dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw hosts Denison in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleader on Wednesday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m.
