Newlon Named NCAC Swimmer of the Week

Greencastle, Ind.- DePauw freshman swimmer Angela Newlon (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon Township) earned North Coast Athletic Conference women’s swimmer of the week honors after leading the Tigers to a second-place finish at Wabash’s Patrick Woehnker Invitational last weekend.

Newlon won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:33.43 to make her first NCAA “B” cut of the day before setting a school record with a 500 freestyle “B” time of 5:01.09 to finish second. She also finished in second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.04.

The Tigers’ 800 free relay of Newlon, Emily Weber, Kirsten Olson and Dana Zerbini touched first in a pool record 7:50.23.

DePauw totaled 665 points in the event finishing behind the University of Indianapolis who won with 838 points.

Newlon and the Tigers are back in the water, December 5-7, at the Total Performance Sports Camps Invitational at Kenyon College.
